Camp Ridgecrest for Boys

After completing the Master Plan in 2012 for Camp Ridgecrest for Boys, a resident summer camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Domokur Architects provided architectural design services for the renovation and addition to Lake Lodge, the Camp Administration office. The design nearly doubles the area of the existing building, providing 6500 square feet of conditioned offices, collaboration and work areas, and large conference room for year round and seasonal camp staff. The renovation also includes enlarged reception areas, storage, and updated restrooms, as well as a new Camp Store. The existing open parking area in front of the building has been redesigned to create the new Camp Commons, a meeting and play area with sport and activity courts and program deck overlooking the lake. The Camp Commons creates an inviting arrival and gathering area for campers while connecting the office to adjacent facilities and program area in what used to be an asphalt and gravel parking lot. The work completed at Ridgecrest was the second phase of a four phase Implementation Plan established during the Master Plan for both Camps at Ridgecrest. The first phase, completed summer of 2015, consisted of projects designed by Domokur Architects for Camp Crestridge for Girls, including the renovation and expansion of both the Dining Hall and Chapel, a new amphitheater overlooking the lake, and ridge decks with stairs connecting the heart of camp to the newly added camper villages, pool complex, and climbing tower on top of the Ridge. Without adequate space to build new facilities, increased capacity was accommodated by extensive renovation and expansion of the existing dining hall and chapel in the limited space available.
