Camp Seafarer (for girls) and Camp Sea Gull (for boys) annually serve over 9,000 people from all 50 states, and some 40 countries. Each located on a 350 acre site near Oriental, North Carolina, these two camps provide unique programs that, due to their waterfront location a short distance from the Atlantic Ocean, places a strong emphasis on seamanship. Over the years, we have worked with these two camps on the completion and implementation of their comprehensive master plans.
Central to these master plans was enhancing and adapting the sites to provide more multi-group/family programming, including the renovation and construction of new cabins, health centers, arts & crafts centers, administrative and housing spaces for staff, and beautifying the landscape through reforestation. With an eye for sustainability, the “Passageway to the Outdoors” building serves as the base for the camps’ environmental education programs, and makes extensive use of recycled materials, solar orientation, and natural ventilation, while the Camp Center complex houses the camp store, staff lounge, and a large evening program center – creating a comfortable space that contributes to the camps’ of community, friendship, and fun.
