After completing the Master Plan for YMCA Camp Greenville in 2012, Domokur Architects was excited to have been selected to undertake a series of new architectural projects as part of the master plan development and implementation plan. The Waterfront project that is currently under construction, involves the development of new ADA-compliant swimming amenities on the north bank of Lake Sudie, which is the larger of the two lakes on site. The new development will include a new 900 SF building for changing facilities and restrooms, as well as an expansive swimming deck that will serve a new 4,000 SF man-made beach, permanent swimming docks, diving tower and rope swing, and side-by-side fiberglass waterslides.
We were also asked to design an elevated Treehouse-type structure as part of this implementation. Planned as one of the program buildings, this project involves a series of partially covered elevated walkways with gathering areas leading to a program area covered by a fabric tensile structure. The proposed structure will primarily be framed with steel columns, wood floor structure, and wood timber frames.
